Description: Physical Education Teacher Education programs have historically included information on motor development however information specific to sensory integration (SI) theory is not always part of this coursework. This webinar is designed to "re-introduce" SI theory and discuss/demonstrate how SI can positively impact children diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. In addition, participants will see a variety of fun activities designed to promote sensory integration, cross-lateral integration, sensory stimulation and discrimination.
In addition, attendees will learn about the concept of GMAT (Gross Motor Assessment Teaming) when working on SI related activities. Webinar attendees will be asked to "engage" in a variety of sensory integration activities from their sites.
1. Understand the function of the sensory input systems in the development of coordinated movement.
2. Understand the role of the gross motor assessment team towards working with children who have sensory integration delays.
3. Understand how using activities which target Sensory Integration can help students improve their kinesthetic and sensory awareness.
