This presentation will feature the basic skills necessary to teach and learn Double Dutch rope jumping. Cues for turning the ropes, jumping and teaching beginning jumpers will be discussed. A progression from single long rope to Double Dutch is highlighted, with suggestions on how to teach the skills to various ages, from second graders through adult learners. Double Dutch, besides being an excellent fitness activity, is known for building social skills and confidence.
- Participants will become familiarized with basic cues for turning the ropes and jumping during Double Dutch.
- Participants will learn to target and fix main errors for turners and jumpers.
- Participants will identify how Double Dutch related to physical education standards in the three domains (psychomotor, cognitive and affective).
- Participants will gain access to hands-on assessment tools to guide future instruction in more advanced Double Dutch skills.
