As another school year comes to an end, Mississippi can be proud of the progress that has been made over the last several years of instituting Move to Learn (MTL) in partnership with the John D. Bower Foundation. Coach Calhoun and the MTL Team continue to reach and teach children about the link between physical activity and academic achievement. They even perform “live” events to thousands of children across the state and get them up and moving — and having fun all at the same time.

Mississippi Department of Health and Mississippi Department of Education/Office of Healthy Schools have partnered to offer the comprehensive school physical activity program (CSPAP) to more than 75 teachers in over just a few months’ time. We are excited about the progress these teachers will make in their school to bring healthy ideas to their school and community.

The Mississippi Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD) will hold its annual convention on November 1-2, 2018, at the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Campus in Long Beach. We are excited to continue the partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation to offer grants to our MAHPERD members to enhance their programs across the state. These grants will be awarded at the MAHPERD convention.
