Caring Sports Environment

As coaches, we are always looking for ways to better connect with our student-athletes to create a positive sport experience for them and ourselves. Join us for this session to learn how coaches can set the scene for a more caring sport environment. Our presentation will explain caring in sport coaching and its connection to the National Standards for Sport Coaches, provide participants with reflective tools and strategies for fostering a caring sport environment throughout the athletic season, and discuss how a caring coach might navigate discipline issues.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will describe the role caring can play in the sport environment.
  • Participants will reflect upon key strategies to support and connect with players on the team.
  • Participants will gain strategies to empower their student-athletes as well as ideas to nurture caring behavior in their student-athletes that they can apply in practice.
  • Participants will identify ways to create a physically and emotionally safe environment where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and safe that they can apply in practice.
