Students Dancing

This webinar demonstrates how curricula from the content areas of music and physical education can be used together to teach movement to students with and without special needs in a general education setting. This collaborative unit, designed by an elementary music teacher and an elementary physical education teacher, involves students utilizing choreographed and non-choreographed movements and/or dances to folk, multicultural, popular, and instrumental music. The movements used in this collaborative unit focus on beat, form, direction, expression, and spatial awareness.

Learning Objectives:

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to create a cross-curricular unit.
  • Develop and use inclusive teaching practices for students with special needs in the general education setting through dance.
  • Foster cooperative learning with elementary students through dance.
  • Develop and use teaching strategies for English language learners.
